Dear Gift Planning colleagues,

We have been monitoring the evolving COVID-19 situation as it relates to plans to host the Western Regional Planned Giving Conference on May 27 - 29, 2020 in Costa Mesa, California. In an abundance of caution for the health of our attendees, speakers and sponsors, the LACGP Board has decided to cancel the in-person Western Regional Planned Giving Conference for 2020.

This was a difficult decision, and we are deeply disappointed that the conference will not be taking place at its usual time and venue this year. We want to walk you through the reasoning behind this decision.

Why did we make this decision?

The safety of you, our conference attendees, speakers and sponsors is our first priority. With the rapid and uncertain evolution of the coronavirus situation in addition to bans on travel for many of you until at least the end of April, and likely much longer, we felt putting anyone in a situation where they might feel uncomfortable was a risk we weren't willing to take. Though we are hopeful that the passage of another month or two will see tremendous improvements in the statistics and a loosening of "stay at home" restrictions, we do not anticipate the situation improving in time for the conference.

We want to make sure that not a single attendee is exposed to the virus as a result of coming to our conference. Further, we do not want anyone bringing the infection back to various communities and organizations across the state and the US.

Will the WRPGC be rescheduled?

At the recommendation of the WRPGC conference co-chairs, the LACGP Board has decided to cancel the in-person conference until 2021. HOWEVER, we are evaluating the possibility of offering a series of webinar sessions with a number of our conference speakers in order to continue our mission to provide educational and networking opportunities for the greater gift planning community. We will communicate additional details as soon as more information becomes available.

What should I do if I already registered?

Registration fees already paid will be applied toward a virtual conference experience and webinar series offered by LACGP during 2020. Details about these options will be made available as soon as possible. In the event that alternative educational options are not available, the registration will be applied toward the 2021 WRPGC. A full refund can be made available upon request by contacting the LACGP administrative office at [email protected].

What do I need to do if I already made a hotel reservation?

You don't need to do anything. The Westin Costa Mesa will automatically cancel all hotel room reservations.

In 1991, the Planned Giving Round Table of Southern California (PGRTSC), then the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning of Greater Los Angeles (PPP-LA), now the Los Angeles Council of Charitable Gift Planners (LACGP), started a conference called the Western Regional Planned Giving Conference (WRPGC). Today, the WRPGC is regarded as one of the premier Planned Giving conferences in the country. Participation and popularity has grown enormously with attendees as well as sponsors; including financial planners, accountants, gift planning and major gift officers, vice presidents, and directors of development.

Continuing Education Credits

The  Los Angeles Council of Charitable Gift Planners is approved as a continuing education provider of MCLE credit by the State Bar of California; CPE continuing education credits for CPAs; CSPG continuing education credits for Planned Giving; CFRE continuing education credits for Fund Raising Executives. An application for continuing education credits for CFP® is submitted when the course content is within the CFP® Board guidelines.
