Scripps College / Director of Gift Planning
POSITION PURPOSE To direct, manage and supervise the College's Gift Planning Program Scripps College seeks a dynamic, entrepreneurial candidate to expand and reenergize the College's planned giving program. The director will have the enthusiastic support of the President and Board of Trustees to build a premier planned giving program by enlarging the outreach and communication, educating the staff and engaging the constituency on the power of gift planning. DIMENSIONS Direct a program that will educate donors, Advancement colleagues and the Business and Financial Affairs staff about the benefits and advantages of planned giving. Provide technical expertise and relationship skills to build and maximize planned giving opportunities within the Scripps constituency.
POSITION Enhance, expand and market a comprehensive gift planning program geared at securing leadership and planned gifts from alumnae, friends, faculty and staff. Develop and implement a marketing and communications program plan that includes direct mail, print and electronic media. Collaborate with the college's leaders, fundraisers and volunteers to devise strategies to solicit support from alumnae, parents and friends. Assist colleagues and donors in "closing" planned gifts. Enhance and expand membership in The Elm Tree Society. Develop programs to steward and cultivate these donors annually. Educate IA colleagues, volunteers and donors about gift planning arrangements and opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS Five to seven years of successful fund-raising experience in planned giving or the equivalent leadership fundraising experience in an educational institution, especially in the area of capital campaign gifts. Must have an understanding of and interest in women's philanthropy. Superb interpersonal skills and the ability to work collegially and effectively with diverse groups of constituents (campus leaders, alumnae, parents, students, colleagues, and volunteers). Strong listening, writing, and oral communication skills, critical thinking and marketing skills are required. Must be able to communicate highly technical information in a user-friendly fashion to college constituents, particularly alumnae. Ability to manage multiple tasks and to plan, execute and market a sustained gift planning program. Bachelor's degree required. Legal and/or financial planning training a plus. A good sense of humor is essential.
